Qing (Diane) Hu

HCI designer & researcher

I am currently a master student in Carnegie Mellon University, research assistant in CARE lab working with Hong Shen. I am looking for a PhD position in HCI research.

With a bachelor's in linguistics and a master's in interaction design, I've seen dialogue at work on two fronts: linguists decode cultures through dialogue, while designers choreograph interfaces that speak without words.

Conversation may not solve every conflict, but when it's thoughtful it sharpens our interactions with computing agents and nourishes understanding among people. My work lies at that intersection—allowing machines to understand us better and using AI‑mediated communication (AIMC) to spark richer conversations between people.
